Chiiild Creates A 12 Track Dreamscape With ‘Better Luck In The Next Life’ Album

If there was ever a personification of genre-bending, it would be Canadian artist Chiiild. A far cry from the traditional elements he brought to us with his first album, Better Luck In The Next Life is the clearest illustration of Alternative R&B and how to utilize various sonic components to create an auditory work of art.

“Apocalyptic Optimistic- a little hope and a little mischief” is the phrase toted through Chiiild’s updated website, a suitable tag after listening to this exquisite, synth-soul album that takes you through the sounds of a beautiful nightmare, to the overwhelming dreamscape, all crafted by his introspective lyrics and haunting yet melodious vocals.

With impressively placed features, such as Lucky Daye’s appearance on lead single, “Good For Now,” and (my personal favorite) the astonishing collaboration with Alina Baraz and Caitlyn Scarlett on “Hell and High Water,” Chiiild showcases his depth as an artist as well as his ability to arrange songs with duets that compliment each other effortlessly.

Tackling the ideas of mayhem in the world around us, accepting our love and relationships for what they are, and the self-reflection that works its way through each track, he is thoughtful in his delivery of an album that induces a deep level of thought, while also allowing listeners to escape into the world he created for us.

Flowing through instrumentals that are reminiscent of the grunge sound of the 90’s and interlacing that with a variety of experimental sounds, this is the kind of album that you can simply fall too deeply into, that you will start moving to the beat without even realizing it.
